Lube turns me on. It just does. I’ve had a long-running sexual fantasy involving a tarp and enough bottles of baby oil that I’m pretty it’d cause an accident, so it goes without saying that I like my sex wet. I want to hear it, feel it, taste it – and I’m glad to say that this pack from my favourite lube brand hits all five senses.
It’s no secret I love Sliquid, so let me give you the TL;DR of this review now: it’s awesome. What’s also awesome is a company who makes dozens of lube types AND has the consideration to say, “don’t waste your money on a whole bottle of something you don’t know” and instead packs an entire line of premium lube into a teeny little box.
This 12-pack of travel-sized pillows (5ml each) contains 2 of select lubes in the Sliquid Naturals selection (as opposed to the Essentials, Lip Lickers, or Satin range). Some might use them once and toss, but I’m cheap, and still working on pillows from months ago. You can get quite a few runs out of these if you wanted. The box is $23.99 at My Bedroom Spice (see below for 20% off!)
Included in this box:
- 2 x Sliquid Naturals H2O
- 2 x Sliquid Naturals Sassy
- 2 x Sliquid Naturals Silver
- 2 x Sliquid Naturals Swirl Green Apple
- 2 x Sliquid Naturals Swirl Blue Raspberry
- 2 x Sliquid Naturals Swirl Cherry Vanilla
What I do wish had come with the pack was a little summary of what each type was intended for; the little Sassy pack didn’t snap her fingers and Silver wasn’t collecting a pension, so what do the names mean?
H20 is self-explanatory (water-based, for all you chem majors), and all the Swirl flavoured ones serve their purpose. It turns out Sassy is meant for anal use, formulated to be thicker than H20; Silver is silicone, 100% waterproof, and long-lasting.
It got the job done in the basic yet amazing way Sliquid does. I wish I liked water-based lube more, but I always find it sticky afterwards and not very long lasting. Of course Sliquid H20 wasn’t sticky, but the longevity of it does leave some room for improvement; either way, much better than any other water-based lubricant I’ve ever tried.
Just like it promises, it’s thicker; it’s best used for anal play, but I had my own approach. During anal play, I would use this to get the ball rolling – tease myself, get relaxed, and put in my toy – but that would be it for Sassy. After that I would apply a less viscous lube (like Silver or H20) to keep it fun, and I found the mixture of thick Sassy with the fun, natural feeling of thinner lubes made it long-lasting yet not too thick.
I loved silver; it’s made to mimic the body’s natural lubrication, and I think that’s why. It lasted longer than H20 or Sassy, and it was just the right amount of slippery fun that it turned me on SO much. I’ve never used a pure silicone-based lube and it’s so hard for me to go back after see this long-lasting, wet-sex fun variation.
I’ve never been a flavoured lube person – the only reasons I’ve ever used it was because I got it to test or it was included in some kit. Not for me, but it’s nice to taste something other than dick once in a while (not to say I don’t love the taste).
Basically all of Sliquid’s flavoured lubes have the same formula. They’re pretty runny, not the kind of thing you’d put on someone to drip down slowly as a tease (believe me, I tried), and they have the same problem as other flavoured lubes: stickiness. Sliquid be damned, you can’t help that all flavoured lubes come with goop. My boyfriend did say it wasn’t so much sticky as a bit uncomfortable (once he has his pants on), but this is inevitable with any sexy, tasty treat.
Bonus: I spilled some Swirl on my sheets and, no stain! Woot.
The flavours were pretty good (more below), but unfortunately they didn’t last long. While giving head, after the first couple mouthfuls, it was time to reapply again and again. Here are the three flavours ranked by preference:
- Green Apple – OMG. It tastes like a god damn Jolly Rancher! I would drip this on ice cream. If I was ever going to re-purchase a flavour, it’s this.
- Cherry Vanilla – Rich vanilla with light cherry – cherry is a hard flavour to emulate and I think Sliquid really nailed this. Green Apple it ain’t though.
- Blue Raspberry – I don’t know. In fairness, I typically hate this flavour based on its name anyway. What is it trying to be? For the photos I originally wanted to get some fruit to photograph next to the lube packets but OH THAT’S RIGHT, BLUE RASPBERRY ISN’T REAL. It’s just a bullshit flavour.
That said, it’s not my favourite here either – unlike the other two, the flavour just wasn’t strong and I’d rather just give a run-of-the-mill blowjob than taste dick mixed with blue LIES.
