How to Choose the Right Lube

sliquid naturals organic lube

Why use lube?

It’s a common (and incorrect) assumption that lube is strictly for those with dryness problems. While lube does add a whole new level of comfort to those who may be struggling with their own natural lubrication, it also adds excitement, texture, and flavour to any kind of sex. It can help with a too-big man, condom dryness, breakage, and just generally cutting down the time between arousal and actual lubrication (if it ever comes at all!)

But one lube does not fit all, both for bodies and for certain sexual acts, so when it comes to choosing the right lube, it’s not so cut and dry. Factors like materials, safety, flavours, allergies, sensations, and much more all come into play whether you’re choosing lube for the first time or the twentieth. In partnership with Lubezilla, I’ve created a big ‘ol guide for the safest and most sensual lubricant that fits your particular sexual scenario. Let’s start with the basics first…

Review: Satisfy Wand by Please

Satisfy wand vibrator on bed by my tickle trunk

Talking about this wand is weird, as was naming this review. Calling it “Please Satisfy” sounds like a desperate plea for when you’re so sick of trying out bad toys that you just want this one to be different. Don’t worry; this isn’t the case.

I’ve been trying to find the words to describe this wand for a while. I first learned about the Satisfy wand by Canadian company Please while watching one of my favourite cam girls, later finding the exact toy on Come As You Are. I’m always consistently impressed by (most) wands, so I make it my mission to try as many wands of any size as I can. The fact that a Canadian company was a part of it? Especially from a Canadian brand.

Review: The Butters Personal Lubricant and Moisturizer

The Butters Lubricant with a butter knife and dish by my tickle trunk

Any past readers will remember how loyal I am to my favourite lube, and how hard it is for me to stray. So when I unwrapped The Butters from Peepshow Toys, I was delightfully perplexed with every aspect of it.

I received two varieties; the first is the original lube and moisturizer with aloe vera and shea butter (yellow label), and the second is made with raw honey and cocoa butter (orange label). Honey & cocoa butter costs a few bucks extra, but is safer for those with allergies to soy or wanting to avoid palm oils, as both are found in the original aloe vera and shea butter formula. Both are heavily moisturizing, but both are like, well, butter.

Review: MysteryVibe Crescendo

MysteryVibe Crescendo review my tickle trunk

The concept of the Crescendo seemed pretty cool from the get-go, but even from the start, I had my own doubts about how this multipurpose sex toy would be able to satisfy my needs. Nonetheless, I was pleased to hear from MysteryVibe, and my curiosity got the better of me, so now I’m the proud owner of a vibrator that I’ll probably never use again.

Don’t get me wrong – the principle is quite solid; 6 individual motors make up the body of this shape-shifting toy, like the Odo of masturbation. But where others rightfully saw a 100% unisex, pleasure-seeking, all-encompassing revolution in sex aids, I saw a toy that was trying to do too much. The rabbit vibrator is proof that a toy trying to do it all is likely to end up doing nothing, and while the flexible form was indeed intriguing, it was still just a rigid piece of silicone with 6 lacklustre motors instead of one half-decent one.

Shop Canada: Interview with Cailey of La Petite Mort

le petit more my tickle trunkcailey le petit more my tickle trunk Late last year, I sat down with Cailey Root, the owner of Toronto’s very own La Petite Mort, to talk about her new store and ask the really hard questions (like whether she’d Fuck, Marry, or Kill the Tantus Rumble). The store is online-based, catering exclusively to Canadians looking for beautiful, body-safe toys without having to go south of the border. She offers a wide selection of curated toys, as well as lingerie, lube, and my favourite – art! Check out La Petite Mort for your Canadian sex toy needs!

Review: Sliquid Silk

sliquid silk review my tickle trunk

By now I’ve done enough Sliquid reviews that you probably get the message – OMFG I LOVE SLIQUID. I was truly lucky to find it early on and not have to endure too many bad lube experiences (with the exception of one later on), and I continue to sing its praises. But I thought I’d talk about WHY I like Sliquid Silk, especially in comparison to other Sliquid variations.

First off, I hold this bottle very close to my heart. Literally. When I spotted the vibrant purple bottle and looked at the price tag, I immediately clutched it to my chest in a primal “back off bitches” stance. See, Come As You Are had THE most bonkers sale last month, so bonkers in fact that I drove all the way back to Toronto for it even though I was visiting my boyfriend in another city. I had no intention on really buying anything, because so many sales are advertised in such a generous way, only to be a disappointing 10% off in reality. But oh was I wrong. Between 30% off ALL sex toys & props, and their clearance bins with savings of up to 90% off, I was happy I made the trip. Come As You Are retails Sliquid in the range of $30, and, guys…

Toxic Lube Ingredients (And On A Related Note, A Quick Review Of Forta Lube)

Toxic lube ingredients forta lubricant u-lube review my tickle trunk

It had happened a few times; my boyfriend and I would be going at it, and it was hot. Then after a couple minutes it was… hot. My vagina; it was washed over with a stinging, burning discomfort that I still can’t accurately describe. Like if you ran a hair dryer over an open flesh wound, or your hands were raw from climbing the monkey bars… in my vagina. It concerned me and made me worry that I might lose all enjoyment in sex, but it didn’t happen every time so I tried to push it out of my mind.

Review: Tantus Tsunami

Review Tantus Tsunami My Tickle Trunk

I bought the Tsunami during one of Gabby’s used (sterilized) toy sales and of course read her review on the item before buying. A decent review, with the singular problem being size – something that she admitted has been an issue in the past.
I’m no size queen, but I’ve never had a problem with toys before and I’m going to have to agree with the majority of reviews I’ve found – it’s just too big! I can fit JUST up to the end of the second-to-final ridge; if I push and don’t want any real stimulation from it.
